Apple Cup 2009: The End is NearThe end of UW futility?  No, that will go on as long as they are a program of cheats and thugs.  The end of their Apple Cup losing streak?  Perhaps, but there shouldn't be much chest-pounding even if they do beat a 1-10 team when they are favored to win by 24 points.  Besides, WSU doesn't count as a rival anymore, right? The end of another coaching regime at UW?  No, despite Sarkheisel's recruiting violations and mounting losses, I expect the Tyee to "Bark for Sark" at least one more season.  It took them much longer to rid themselves of Ty Willingham, but it should be a similar progression from unbridled myopic enthusiasm about their new coach to tempered optimism to expressions of support to defending the coach during down times to making excuses to calling for his job to baking birthday cakes for your next dreamy-hire.  The end of Nick Holt?  Maybe, although I think I speak for all Dawg-haters when I say I wish the ugly little spaz would stick around a while.  His coaching record at Idaho speaks for itself, kind of like his pass coverage schemes at the end of close games.  I think there's just enough "Bark" in this mutt to keep him with Sark for the foreseeable future. The end of Jake Locker?  It seems plausible, as the NFL's pending collective bargaining agreement changes will likely restrict the amount of money future rookies will be able to earn.  His NFL stock can only go down, and he will learn from the experience of Sam Bradford  and not roll the dice in risking yet another injury.  Of course, the Huskies are always known to be gamblers, so it's not a lock. So what could be coming to and end with Apple Cup 2009?  Why, the year-long celebration of the 2008 Huskies, the first and only Winless 0-12 team in Pac-10 history.  The Worst College Football Team of All Time has been celebrated mightily here on HuskiesSuck.com, but all good things must come to an end and the Apple Cup 2009 marks the end of this year-long Festival of Futility.  One year ago HuskiesSuck.com future Hall of Shamer Ty Willingham and his pups put the seal on one of the greatest rides the college football world has ever known.  Never to be forgotten, the Huskies may never repeat that situation again.  That's why we commemorated the event with a commemorative t-shirt to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime achievement.  And so it is, with the end of the 2009 Apple Cup that we also tip our caps and salute Ty Willingham and the 2008 Huskies, and look forward to a new string of traditions and misadventures from Sarkheisel and his gang of goofy sidekicks and disappointing players.
