Haha! Someone sounds a little bitter after a 30-0 Apple Cup pounding by Montlake Jake!
| Locker to NFL: "I'm Bigger Than You" |
| Blog - Football Blog |
"Jake Locker announced today that he would forgo his Senior season at the UW in order to enter the NFL Draft, where he was projected to be the number one overall selection. This move was widely accepted, considering the parameters at play: Locker's draft stock has nowhere to go but down, the NFL's collective bargaining agreement expires and will be renegotiated soon, ensuring that next year's class won't get the same guaranteed money as the 2010 class, the additional year of earning power, the time-value of safely-invested money, and the more obvious risk of injury or under performance. That's how this post was supposed to read. That's what it would've said in the world where up is up and 1+1=2. But over on Montlake, the drugs they are smoking doesn't let them use logic and rational thought to make intelligent decisions. So instead, it reads like this: "WTF? Jake Locker announced today that he would forgo play out his Senior season at the UW in order to enter the NFL Draft endure another losing season, where he was projected to be the number one overall selection an under-performing disappointment. This move was widely accepted mocked and chided, considering the parameters at play: Locker's draft stock has nowhere to go but down, the NFL's collective bargaining agreement expires and will be renegotiated soon, ensuring that next year's class won't get the same guaranteed money as the 2010 class, the additional year of earning power, the time-value of safely-invested money, and the more obvious risk of injury or under performance. I mean, seriously, WTF?
In this move, Locker embodies the arrogance of the University of Washington. Locker decided that he'd rather Bark for Sark rather than play in the most prestigious professional sports league in the world. He decided that he's too important to be bothered by the jeopardies facing rookies under the new CBA. That he's above the natural law of risk (despite his fequent appearances on the injury report) and that he's so darn special that he can't possibly get hurt and ruin his career. He's decided that he's bigger than the NFL itself. Bigger than the league that alone fosters interest in the game he plays, that will potentially keep him from working at a Wendys after he graduates. Locker just "big-time'd" the NFL, and for what? More opportunities to continue to be the "solidified loser who's selfish actions cost his team" that he is. What possible reasons could there be for making such a stupid, risky decision? What does it take for a person to make such a decision without regard to its consequences? Generally, those types of decisions are made by people who follow their heart rather than their mind. People for whom the connection of a personal relationship transcends material things like money. People who are normally reasonable people but under the durress of the most powerful of human emotions-- love-- make decisions with their body that their mind's can't justify. People who share a special relationship with a special lady... like Jake and his mom.
