Adding Some Experience PDF Print E-mail

The Huskies added some sorely needed coaching experience to their Hall of Fame (to-be) staff this week with the hiring of Nick Holt, who was "Defensive Coordinator" for the USC Trojans.

Holt brings the staff its first Head Coaching experience (at any level), and with a fitting track record:  Holt was 5-18 in his illustrious career as Idaho's Head Coach.  Despite the losing record, Holt brought through several top-level recruits to Idaho and managed to turn around the program.  With the players recruited while Holt was Head Coach, the Vandals have amassed subsequent records of 4-8, 1-11, and 2-10.

If that doesn't ring of UW level talent, I don't know what does.

While carrying the title of "Defensive Coordinator" for defensive mastermind Pete Carroll at USC, Holt did not call the plays and was responsible for... not much.  Game planning, I guess?  Defensive game planning for Pete Carroll is a bit like being a sommelier for Jesus.  It's a nice gesture, but he's not going to need it.  He'll just make his own, thank you very much.

But on the bright side, Holt is expected to re-instate a long proven tradition of college football practices: tackling.  The fact that this has to be re-instated at the Ewe helps to at least partially explain the 0-12 Winless season.

Holt took a significant pay cut to come lend Coach "Sark" his experience.  So, he left the best program in the country, with significantly higher pay, to come take the same position for a winless football team with a first-time head caoch... and we're supposed to believe this was by his own choice?

Sure he did.  He even told us exactly why when asked at his introductory presser:  "You've got a tremendous, tremendous coach in Steve Sarkisian... He's one of the best football minds in college football, without a doubt. He's a rising star and I wanted to be a part of it."

Nick Holt may be a lot of things: failed Head Coach, terrible recruiter, founding member of the Michael Chickliss fanboi club, and much older than he wants you to know, but there's one thing he's not: a good liar.
